Social Security Institution Agreement
How to Obtain Medical Devices through the Social Security Institution (SGK)?
The Social Security Institution (SGK) provides partial reimbursement to patients for the medical products they need.
In order to receive reimbursement for medical products, the patient or their relative must apply to their affiliated SGK office with a medical board report and prescription issued by the hospital.
If the requested medical product is related to reusable devices, two different procedures are followed:
1.If the institution has second-hand medical devices in its stock, they are provided to the patient for use.
2.If the institution does not have the device in stock, medical approval is granted for the required device, and a note stating “No Stock Available” is added to the report. In this case, the devices can be purchased by the insured person, and once the necessary documents are submitted to SGK, a partial reimbursement will be made after a certain period of time. Under these circumstances, the patient or their relatives can obtain the devices from any medical supply company of their choice.
The amount of reimbursement the insured will receive varies depending on the products. These amounts are determined and published in the “Health Implementation Communiqué (SUT).”
Not all medical products are covered by reimbursement. Some are subject to the Medula system. Especially consumable materials are directly paid by the Medula system to the contracted medical supply stores. With your medical report and prescription, you can go to an SGK-contracted medical store and obtain your products. In this system, SGK does not make the payment to the patient or their relatives, but instead directly pays the contracted medical supply store.
